On Saturday, June 2, 2018, Bishop Barry C. Knestout ordained 3 new priests: Rev. John Baab, Rev. James O'Reilly, and Rev. Nick Redmond. It was a beautiful liturgy and a packed Cathedral. Congratulations to these 3 new priests in our Diocese.
The day started with Bishop meeting with the guys and their family, blessing the their chalices. The Rite of Ordination includes the Election of the Candidates, the promise of the elect, the litany of supplication (where they prostrate themselves in an act of humble prayer and surrender to God), the laying on of hands by the Bishop followed by all the priests, the prayer of ordination, the vesting of the newly ordained, the anointing of the hands, the handing over of the bread and wine, and finally, the fraternal kiss. It's truly a beautiful ceremony. Bishop received first blessings from each of the newly ordained before he and the 3 gave the final blessing to the congregation. After the procession, many lined up to greet the newly ordained and receive first blessings.
